I feel that it would be wrong longer to delay in giving my testimony of what God has done for me through Christian Science. The last week of November, 1899, I was stricken with what the doctor called flux, severe rectal trouble, and was suffering from other organic disorders, including an abnormal growth. For three of the eight weeks that I was confined to my bed I suffered untold agony. The physician visited me twice daily and told my daughters that nothing more could be done for me, but if I had strength to hold out until the medicine could take effect I might get better, although I would never be well. He finally said a surgical operation was necessary, but I resolved never to submit to such an ordeal. When I was taken sick one of my daughters was in a town of an adjoining county, and while there was invited to the home of a Christian Science practitioner. This Scientist talked to her about Christian Science and awakened her interest in it. As I was considered dangerously sick a telegram was sent to my daughter asking her to come home. During the dreary weeks that followed, she spoke often of this Christian Scientist who healed through the power of Truth; but we could not understand how it was done. When I felt that my strength was almost gone, I cried out, "O God, help me, for I cannot bear this suffering any longer." I believed that God would help and He certainly did, for I lay two days conscious but comparatively easy. When the doctor saw I was better he insisted on a surgical operation, but I refused to submit to one.

Soon after this we turned to Christian Science and absent treatment was given me for a few days. Then at the practitioner's request my daughters got me ready and I went to his home, and as he told them to do, they left me in God's care. I was with the practitioner and his good wife during the first week of February, 1900, and in that time was healed of the rectal trouble, of rheumatism in the left foot, feeble action of the heart, severe stomach disorder, an internal organic trouble from which I had suffered for twenty years, and the abnormal growth. On the fifth day after my arrival at the home of the practitioner I put on my shoe, and there has been no return of the lameness.

I had long believed that God would heal sickness if we only knew how to pray for the healing. The spiritual uplift which Christian Science has brought to me and to my family of four has been a great blessing, all having been greatly benefited. I feel deeply grateful to our revered Leader for the spiritual light she has given to us, a higher idea of "Immanuel," and for the Christian Science periodicals, which are so helpful. Most of all I am thankful to God for the wonderful healing, and for our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," given to us through the inspired thought of Mrs. Eddy, for it shows us the way to God, Life, Truth, and Love.
