The Mother Church

In reading the report of the annual meeting of The Mother Church one is instinctively reminded of what Mrs. Eddy has written on page 3 of her book "The People's Idea of God," from which we quote as follows: "Let us rejoice that the bow of omnipotence already spans the moral heavens with light, and that the more spiritual idea of good and Truth meets the old material thought like a promise upon the cloud, while it inscribes on the thoughts of men at this period a more metaphysical religion founded upon Christian Science."

The glory of The Mother Church is that it is extending to the remotest ends of the earth this "more metaphysical religion" which heals the sick, reforms the sinful, and binds up the broken-hearted. Upon those who are now members of this church there rests the responsibility of seeing that this religion is preserved pure and unadulterated, and that the means which have been provided by our Leader are used to the utmost for bringing to the world this "pearl of great price." To every member of The Mother Church the Manual is a guide to safety and progress, and its constant study is as requisite to the growth of these members as is the study of the other writings of Mrs. Eddy.

Membership in The Mother Church should not be looked upon as simply a personal distinction, a reward, a goal won. It should be the symbol of a greater consecration to the service of God and man, an avowed intention to seek "first the kingdom of God," as our Master bids us, and thus to let our every thought and act be for the benefit of humanity. With this concept of church membership prevailing, The Mother Church will continue to grow in usefulness, and its members will be blessed and have cause for rejoicing, because of their unselfish seeking for righteousness and the results which will surely follow such seeking.
