Powerful Cooperation

Christian Scientists are learning to cooperate with each other by working with God, Principle, Mind. In divine Mind there is unity, and in so far as men are at-one with that Mind they are bringing out the true brotherhood of man. Powerful cooperation therefore depends upon a clear understanding of God's nature,—His ever-presence, His loving-kindness and mercy.

Amid the glaring inequalities, the sudden reversals, the fleeting memories of daily life, there is little to cheer the searcher for truth until God's presence is recognized to be a fact. Christian Science with its divine logic converts the disheartened and discouraged thinker into a right thinker, and so reveals itself as the veritable Comforter promised by the Master. Did the weary searcher suppose that he could be cut off from God and bereft of His saving grace? Then there must have been some misconception of the nature of God, for the right idea of God presented by Christian Science will destroy the misconception and reveal "a God at hand." In this way the right understanding of God is bringing to humanity salvation and cure, relief from fear and dark foreboding, joy in active work, and the necessary intelligence to foresee and forestall mistakes.

Out upon a world heavy laden and distraught the good news of Christian Science shines resplendent with the rays of loving-kindness. Before the advent of Christian Science who would have supposed that mercy, tenderness, compassion, loving-kindness, could be reduced to scientific terms and made the servants of exact reasoning? This was because humanity had almost forgotten that "God is love," until Mrs. Eddy reemphasized this basic statement of the beloved disciple. The psalmist gloriously described the Christian Science concept of God when he sang, "Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with loving-kindness and tender mercies." Mrs. Eddy quoted from this psalm in referring to the pledge of a large sum of money for the building of the extension of The Mother Church. Her statement, entitled "Now and Then," is to be found reprinted on page 13 of Miscellany. In view of the present raising of further large sums for the needs of The Mother Church, in accordance with the recent statement of The Christian Science Board of Directors entitled "Looking Forward," Christian Scientists will find a rereading and a careful studying of Mrs. Eddy's words most helpful.
