Not long ago I received abundant evidence of God's protection...

Not long ago I received abundant evidence of God's protection and love as revealed to us through the study of Christian Science. One Sunday evening, after the church service, as my wife and I were crossing a main thoroughfare, which was very dark owing to the lighting restrictions now in force, I suddenly realized that a heavy motor-cycle, with side car attached, was bearing down upon us at a rapid rate. I made an effort to push my wife out of the way and the next moment was struck down.

Even while falling I declared aloud that God is Mind, realizing that as Mind is All, matter has no power to harm any of God's children. I attempted to rise, but was again knocked down. The machine came to a standstill, and I was trying to regain my feet once more when I was again bowled over through another machine running into the back of the first one. After this I was able to get up, and a feeling of great rejoicing at once flooded my consciousness, while a voice seemed to whisper, "My presence shall go with thee." I went over to my wife, a few yards away, and found her in the care of some Scientist friends whom we had just left.

There were two doctors near by, and several people in the crowd wanted us to go or be taken to them, but our friends assured them that we did not require doctors, and a few minutes afterward we were able to withdraw quietly and walk home. Although my clothes were covered with mud and both my coats were cut through at the same place, I was practically unhurt, with the exception of three or four bruises and two small cuts. The next morning I was able to go to business as usual, and after the following Wednesday evening service was feeling perfectly well.
