Realizing that it is a duty as well as a privilege to make...
Realizing that it is a duty as well as a privilege to make known our thankfulness to God and the debt of gratitude we owe to Mrs. Eddy and to Christian Science for the many manifestations of the power of divine Love we have received, I with to give my testimony of healing.
On Jan. 7, 1916, while working for a gravel company near Greenville, I attempted to board of moving pit engine. In my haste I slipped and fell, and was dragged for some distance before the engine was stopped. On examination by the company's surgeon the bones of the left foot were found to be crushed and the artery in a bad condition; circulation had ceased and amputation was thought necessary. As soon as possible I had word sent to my sister, who lives on a farm only a few miles away. Remembering the many years of her sickness, and that after all other means had failed she was healed in a single Christian Science treatment and had become a well and happy woman, I seemed to be filled with hope and to rise above the discordant physical condition.
When my sister arrived I told her I wanted help in Christian Science, as I was fully convinced that nothing else would save my leg; and her words, so free from fear, soon convinced me of the healing power of Truth. I told her I would like to have her call up a practitioner, but to do as she thought best, as I was very short of funds. A few hours later her husband arrived, and my heart was made glad when told that my every need would be cared for. I saw that this was the work of God, and that all would come out well if only I was obedient. At this time I began to read Science and Health, and that evening when the company's surgeon came he exclaimed, "Why, this is no dead foot; it is looking quite different from the way it did this morning." Before he left I told him I was relying on Christian Science treatment and would care for nothing else.
