Many blessings have come to me through the understanding...
Many blessings have come to me through the understanding of Christian Science. Before I was healed I never knew the meaning of the passage, "He restoreth my soul." My life seemed a sad and sorrowful one, filled with disappointments, sickness, and sin. After I became interested in Christian Science, an abnormal growth disappeared, and with it bowel and stomach disorder. I was a nervous wreck and so miserable that I hated myself and every one.
As a girl I sang in a church choir and thought myself a Christian; but a sorrow came into my life and I simply wanted to die, thinking that would end it all. I went to Florida for my health, and while there met a lady who advised me to try Christian Science. I did not do so, however, until it seemed as if I should lose my mind; then I sent for her and had two treatments. The healing was complete and almost instantaneous, and a business in which I had invested some money was straightened out at the same time. Another demonstration which proved God's omnipotence was the healing of my little son through absent treatment. The child had mistaken a can of lye for condensed milk and drank from it. In the first treatment the throat and stomach were healed, so that he took nourishment as usual without suffering. In four weeks all disfigurement had disappeared.
I have learned when trials come to go to the Bible and Science and Health, and by earnestly praying and realizing the allness of God, good, as ever present, I have not only solved my problems but have helped others. I know that God supplies our every need. Mrs. Eddy tells us in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 307): "God gives you His spiritual ideas, and in turn, they give you daily supplies." I pray daily for wisdom, understanding, and patience to do what my hands find to do, and hope to prove my thankfulness to God and my love and gratitude to Mrs. Eddy. Through the teachings of Christian Science I have learned to separate the free woman from the bondwoman. My little son, now eight years old, attends the Christian Science Sunday school, and we know that "divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need" (Science and Health, p. 494).
