It is about nine years since I was led to the truth and healed of what is known as lung trouble in its worst form, after I had been given up by our physician, who told my wife that I could last but a few weeks. Christian Science was brought to my notice, but at first I refused to have anything to do with it. I was finally persuaded to attend a Wednesday evening meeting, but was not much impressed by it. Soon afterward, however, a copy of the Sentinel was handed me, and after reading it through I became so interested that instead of not wanting to attend the service I offered to accompany my wife on the following Wednesday evening if she wished to go. We went, and the truth was surely brought to me. I then applied to a practitioner for help, and through her clear knowledge of the truth I was healed. I have been able to overcome many errors since. The tobacco habit, which had been with me since I was seven years old, left without any apparent effort on my part.
On the last day of the year 1914 I fell downstairs while carrying part of a press weighing about two hundred pounds. I landed on the ground sixteen steps below, breaking through the last three steps. Thanks to the power of Truth I received only a slight bruise on the elbow of my left arm, although I was unconscious for a few minutes and was doubled up under the heavy iron. I felt no ill effect from the fall, and had the stairs repaired and the press in the new shop before two hours had passed. I have been healed of acute throat trouble instantaneously, also of a severe cut across the left knee, which almost exposed the bone. Two hours after this accident I went across the bay to San Francisco to visit friends. No ill effects were experienced either then or afterward.
I thank God for all the blessings I have received, and am very grateful to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for the path she has pointed out to us. I am also grateful to all those who have helped me on my journey from sense to Soul. My greatest hope is that I shall continue in the light and be able to lead others into the truth. God is keeping me in health and strength and supplying my every need, giving me that spiritual uplift I never had before.
