I have been in Christian Science over seven years

I have been in Christian Science over seven years. For twenty years I had been sick with organic heart trouble, malaria, catarrh, and minor ailments, and the doctors said I would never be well. While I was visiting my mother at Scranton a Christian Scientist loaned me Science and Health, and through reading it I was entirely healed of every ailment in a few months. My husband has been healed of rheumatism and bronchial trouble.

We are very thankful for the healing of our little son when he was five years old. While my husband and I were away from home the boy was taken down with what is called "black diphtheria." We were sent for, and when I saw the boy I knew by past experience (as two children had passed on with the same illness) that from a material point of view there was no hope, so we telephoned to a Christian Science practitioner. We were advised to send for a doctor in order to comply with the law, and we did so. When the physician arrived he said it was a very bad case and administered antitoxin, saying there would be no results from it for at least twelve hours.

The practitioner arrived just after the doctor left, and began treatment, but at about sunrise to material sense the boy was dying. The practitioner told us to have no fear, but to hold to the truth. Up to this time the child had been breathing with great effort, but now he stopped, opened his eyes, and turned on his side. The doctor came in and my husband informed him that the crisis was over. The physician showed surprise and said that the antitoxin did not take effect so soon, and he sat there waiting for the boy to pass on, but instead the child was getting better. He continued to improve for a few days, then had a hemorrhage. It seemed necessary to send for the doctor, but I also telephoned to the practitioner. The doctor tried to check the hemorrhage but could not, so telephoned for a specialist. The bleeding had then continued about three hours. We again telephoned the practitioner that the child was no better, but she spoke very encouragingly, telling us not to fear, and in about twenty minutes, and before the other physician had arrived, the flow of blood stopped. No one knows how thankful we were for these demonstrations.
