Among the Churches

Current Notes

Walla Walla, Wash.—Christian Science services are held every Sunday in the Washington State Penitentiary under the auspices of First Church of Christ, Scientist, and are supported by the churches and societies of the state of Washington and by individuals interested in the work. The average attendance has been one hundred and eighty-four men. At the Thanksgiving service, which was held in the chapel in the early afternoon, there were present nine women, twenty townspeople, and two hundred and fifty-eight men.

Ten copies of the Sentinel, 8 Journals, 4 Herolds, and 56 Monitors are listed and put on routes till all who wish to read them have had a chance to do so. There is a large class of men who are reading the literature but do not yet attend the services.

Durban, Natal, South Africa.—The sale of literature for the year ended Oct. 31, 1916, has exceeded all previous records in the history of our organization, and the demand continues to increase. It is interesting to note that the public are beginning to support The Christian Science Monitor, of which six copies are now being sold weekly. New subscribers have also been added to the list. The lending library has been freely used, and at times the supply of copies of the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, has been insufficient to meet the demand. The number of copies of the different works in the library now are: 22 of Science and Health, 29 of Mrs. Eddy's other works, and 6 of "The Life of Mary Baker Eddy" by Sibyl Wilbur. The Sunday school has progressed steadily, the number of scholars attending being greater than in any previous year.
