It was in March, 1912, that I gave Christian Science the first serious thought; previous to that I did not consider it worthy of notice, as I had been in bondage to medicine from childhood. While I am not very far advanced in the study of Christian Science, my desire is to impart to others what I do know. It enables me to say now what I could not say for sixty-five years of my life,—that I am without a single physical ailment.
My healing came about in this way. The winter of 1911-12 was one of continuous anxiety and unrest. In January my home was broken up for the second time from loss of companionship, so the first week in March found me mentally, physically, and financially sick. For thirty-five years I had depended on material remedies to digest my food. Many specialists had diagnosed my case as a complication of ailments, which were numerous and distressing. I had thoroughtly and patiently tried many kinds of treatment. but only temporary relief was received. For years my diet had been carefully restricted until it had finally become very limited.
Up to the day before I resorted to Christian Science I was taking medicine daily, besides an opiate at night to induce sleep. A friend mentioned Christian Science to me, and although I had thought it little short of fanaticism, the next day I called on a practitioner, with the result that my healing of all the above mentioned troubles was almost instantaneous, and I have never taken a drop of medicine since. I ate a hearty supper that night, slept perfectly, and have been eating three meals a day ever since. Chronic bowel trouble was relieved at the same time, and although I had been a smoker for fifty years, to my surprise I soon lost the desire to smoke. All my life I had been subject to violent colds, losing weeks from business on account of them, but I have not lost a day in five years. Rheumatism used to give me much trouble, but I have been free from that ailment too, yet have paid no attention to exposure that I used to avoid on account of it.
