Contrasting the present with the past in my experience,...

Contrasting the present with the past in my experience, I find that there has been clearly exemplified the truth of that loving admonition of Jesus to Nicodemus, "Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." Surely there can be no darkness within the range of human comprehension so dense as that of the mentality which knows not God. About twenty years ago, while in this state of mind and suffering from severe bodily afflictions, I reluctantly consented to try Christian Science for the healing desired, and which I had failed to obtain elsewhere.

The spiritual awakening was almost immediate, and the marvel of that new light dawning in my consciousness during those first few weeks opened up a new world of thought, transformed me mentally, morally, and physically into an entirely different sort of man. I was literally born again; the points of view from which life had been previously contemplated were entirely changed and all things seemed to have been made new. I was completely healed of the desire for tobacco and liquor, the use of which had been habitual for more than twenty years; of a lung trouble which had afflicted me from early boyhood; of a stomach trouble; of chronic bowel disorder, and of the excessive use of profanity. Not one of these discordant conditions has ever returned.

During the nineteen years since then my wife and I have followed the path of Truth together gratefully and joyfully as earnest, diligent students of Christian Science and workers in the church. There has been a steady climb up the mount of understanding, a constant unfoldment of spiritual thought in consciousness. During these years I feel that we have never faltered in desire or effort to be true and loyal in our allegiance to the inspired cause established by our revered Leader, but there have been steps taken hastily or in excess of zeal which were dearly paid for. Christian Science has been the greatest influence for good, the highest incentive to better living, loving, and learning, that ever came into our lives. It has been our sole dependence in every time of need, and we truly feel that everything we possess we owe to its teachings and practice.
