In deep sincerity I wish to express my loving gratitude for the board of lectureship of The Mother Church. One lecture in particular, given in our church, has been with me constantly ever since I heard it, and it was my great blessing to hear it twice. I had just been healed of a serious attack of acute lung trouble, and had overcome fear enough to go out on a rainy night to hear the lecture. I was still under the belief of disease being real, but the healing work was going on, for during the next day the lecture kept coming back and unfolding new thoughts to me, and my consciousness was so cleared that when I heard it again I felt that the lecturer had come for me alone.

While apparently passing through "the valley of the shadow of death," all I could realize was that God was my life. The earnest work of the practitioner, endeavoring to flood my consciousness with a sense of Love, proved to me conclusively that God fills all space and that the healing Principle is Love. The healing was accomplished with but one present treatment and a few absent ones.

Another healing took place shortly afterward. Mrs. Eddy has written on page 339 of Science and Health, "Divine Life destroys death, Truth destroys error, and Love destroys hate." When a sense of hatred was seemingly directed toward me, I did not "stand porter at the door of thought," as our Leader counsels us on page 392 of the same book, but let it in. I found out I was not loving my neighbor as myself, but was disobeying the second commandment, and once more I went down into the valley of the shadow. When almost losing consciousness, again I declared that God was my life, and the healing was instantaneous. The first time the healing came through the work of the practitioner, but the second time through my own realization of the truth. With a deep sense of humility I realized the fearlessness and moral courage of our beloved Leader when she begged us to overcome the sense of God as being personal.
