From Our Exchanges

[Rev. W. S. Swayne in The Guardian]

Men rallied to the call of Christ; they became disciples of the kingdom,—they thought not of themselves and of their own welfare, whether spiritual or temporal, but of God and His cause, and His kingdom, and they found that in so doing they had got into the right relationship to God, and to their fellow men; they had achieved their true life; in a word, they were saved. They did not, however, set out to secure anything for themselves, even their own eternal salvation, but rather to submit themselves wholly to God. They sought first "the kingdom of God, and his righteousness," and they found that unexpected blessings were added to them.
