Albion (Mich.) Recorder

If the entire sermon preached recently in a local pulpit on Christian Science was as devoid of truth and as full of illconcealed religious intolerance as the synopsis reported, doubtless those in the congregation who knew even a little of the true teachings of Christian Science were reminded of the familiar saying of Jesus, "If the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch."

The fact is, and it has been so often authoritatively stated that our critic should not be in ignorance on the point, that Christian Science is based unqualifiedly on Bible teachings. To the thoughtful observer it is evident that the doctrines of Christian Science are not only not opposed to the gospel of Christ but are identical with it. Practically all of the Master's commands to cleanse the sinner have coupled with them the injunction to heal the sick. Christian Scientists are to-day, with remarkable success, obeying these teachings, thus keeping intact the whole Christ, the undivided garment. In other words, Christian Science is so explaining and exemplifying the words and works of Jesus as to make them a present day power. Not only has this new-old religion healed every known disease, but it is destroying sin, restoring to self-respecting citizenship hopeless slaves to passion and appetite, bringing happiness, harmony, and peace to those who are availing themselves of its beneficence.

The assertion that Christian Science is a human effort teaching that sin, disease, and death are delusions, is too unqualified to be within the facts. Simply to affirm that sin, disease, and death are delusions without a supporting understanding of the truth, the knowledge of which Jesus said would make us free, is nothing short of mental quackery and most decidedly is not Christian Science.
