We did not come to Christian Science for any special physical healing, but having heard of the teaching through friends who had been healed, we became very much interested in the literature because it was so satisfying in every way. During the past seven years it has been found that when we faithfully apply our knowledge of God, inharmonies of every nature are overcome. For all the discordant conditions which may arise in our family we use Christian Science.
I have been healed of a severe cold accompanied by a bad cough. Both lungs were affected, and the head and nose also were in bad condition. The senses of smell and taste were completely gone. With the help of a Christian Science practitioner I was entirely healed, but earnest study was necessary on my part. While I was being treated for this trouble a very sore neck, caused by misplaced vertebræ, was healed. I had suffered about eight years from this difficulty, as physicians could only temporarily relieve me, so I felt overwhelmed with gratitude for this beautiful healing.
I wish to tell of another experience which meant so much to me. We subscribed for the Sentinel for three months, and at the expiration of that time could not renew the subscription for financial reasons. A letter was finally received from The Christian Science Publishing Society relative to the matter, so I answered, stating the truth,—that it was due to financial stress. Just at this time some erroneous conditions had come up and my husband was away from us, so that I could not have his help. I studied Christian Science as best I could, but still things seemed very dark. One morning as I lingered at the breakfast table with a sense of deep depression, a neighbor brought our mail. It was unlooked for, as our mail is usually received at evening. There was a letter from The Christian Science Publishing Society in which were loving words of comfort, referring me to the Bible and Science and Health, words which were just what was needed to give hope, and were certainly a balm to a weary heart. It was such a revelation to me, as I had before thought of the Publishing Society as merely a business concern; but this letter of love, also a booklet sent to me, demonstrated how near and helpful it is to us as Christian Scientists.
