With thankfulness to God and gratitude to our beloved...

With thankfulness to God and gratitude to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, I write this testimony. When Christian Science was first brought to my attention, I had only a smile for it, since I did not believe in any organized church, although I did believe in a higher being called God. The first Sunday service I attended, however, so pleased me, in view of the marked absence of personal teaching, that I was filled with joy at having found such a church.

Through the study of the Bible in connection with Science and Health and the other Christian Science literature, I was healed of the liquor and tobacco habits. A double rupture of many years' standing, chronic stomach and bowel trouble, and rheumatism, have also been overcome. While crossing one of the busy streets of Chicago I was knocked down and run over by a horse attached to a delivery wagon, but somehow rolled out of the way before the wagon could pass over me. Although a crowd gathered and a policeman insisted on an examination, as it was thought that I must be seriously injured, I declared the truth to the best of my understanding and went smilingly on my way. Some days afterward great discolored spots were noticed on the kneecap and on the spine, where the horse had hit me, but there never was any swelling or great pain.

I am grateful for having the privilege of being an usher in our church, a work which has done much for my general uplift and change in character. Each day I am trying to unlearn the old and gain room to fill in the new teaching of life eternal, and for all the blessings received I am most grateful to Christian Science.
