Christian Science does not teach that the thoughts of mortals heal the sick, but it does teach that the sick were healed in the first century, and for some two or three centuries, by Jesus and his followers, and that they were healed in accordance with an ever-operative, divine, spiritual law. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 459) Mrs. Eddy says: "Any attempt to heal mortals with erring mortal mind, instead of resting on the omnipotence of the divine Mind, must prove abortive;" and again (p. 78): "Spirit blesses man, but man cannot 'tell whence it cometh.' By it the sick are healed, the sorrowing are comforted, and the sinning are reformed. These are the effects of one universal God, the invisible good dwelling in eternal Science."

To say that the death of any one was caused by Christian Science is about as rational as to say that the bankruptcy and failure of a merchant who did not keep correct accounts was caused by the principle of mathematics. The Principle of Christian Science is absolute and correct, and no more fails when correctly understood and applied than the basic law of mathematics. If failures occur, these are due to a lack of understanding and application of Principle.

There are thousands of people today rejoicing in robust health and going about the world doing their work as sane men, who, according to the verdict of the ordinary medical theories, should have long since passed away.
