The critic's assertions at a meeting of the P. S. A. Brotherhood,...

The Shetland Times

The critic's assertions at a meeting of the P. S. A. Brotherhood, that Christian Science is opposed to all the teachings of Christ and his followers and is largely a delusion which only deceives the ignorant, are not only wholly incorrect, but display a lamentably deficient knowledge of the practical side of the Christian Science movement.

Mrs. Eddy has written the following words on page 136 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures": "Jesus established his church and maintained his mission on a spiritual foundation of Christ-healing. He taught his followers that his religion had a divine Principle, which would cast out error and heal both the sick and the sinning." Christian Science is founded upon the teachings and also the works of Christ Jesus as recorded in the gospels, and the sole test of the truth of this Science of the Christ is the very one which Jesus himself laid down when he said, "By their fruits ye shall know them." These fruits are, of course, the results brought about by Christian Science healing, and they are known today in every quarter of the globe.

Every honest inquirer and sincere seeker after Truth is invited and given every facility thoroughly to investigate such cases for himself. Today the ranks of Christian Science are filling up rapidly with bright, happy, and intelligent people, gathered from all nations and tongues, and they are by no means existing under any delusions whatever about their health. Many of them, after trying many remedies, have at last been healed and restored mentally and physically and morally through the power of Christian Science alone; most of them will declare that it was only after all material means had completely failed, and their condition had been pronounced hopeless, that their freedom in Christian Science was gained by understanding the omnipotence of divine Love.
