Your columns contain an account of an attack on Christian Science by an evangelist holding services in your city. It seems to be quite common with some religionists to endeavor to fill their churches by resorting to the very unethical and unchristian practice of holding other people's religious convictions up to criticism and ridicule. A favorite method of such critics in their unsuccessful attacks on Christian Science is to remove from their contexts different passages of the Christian Science text-book, and endeavor thereby to make unfavorable comparisons between Christian Science and the Bible. It is no difficult task to take any book and by severing passages therefrom so to distort and pervert their meaning as completely to obscure their true intent.

If nothing else, Christian Science is first and last in strict accord and unity of meaning with the Scriptures; it is the outcome of a devout, unceasing, and prayerful study of the Bible, and is based on nothing else. On page 126 of Science and Health Mrs. Eddy says: "I have found nothing in ancient or in modern systems on which to found my own, except the teachings and demonstrations of our great Master and the lives of prophets and apostles. The Bible has been my only authority. I have had no other guide in 'the straight and narrow way' of Truth."

The question as to whether Christian Science contradicts or denies the Bible is one on which the evangelist's hearers need not be influenced by mere opinion. It is one that may be decided by an honest comparison of the Christian Science text-book and other Christian Science literature with the Bible, and this comparison is one which Christian Scientists are ever glad to have made.
