Christian Science was brought to my attention about ten...

Christian Science was brought to my attention about ten years ago in a manner which eliminated all doubt concerning its healing efficacy. At that time a member of our family was, according to belief, a physical wreck, burdened with nervousness and mental depression. The physicians employed in her behalf, probably a dozen or more of those prominent in our section of this city, had failed in their efforts to relieve her. The bath and water cure was given a fair trial, followed by electrical treatment, but no permanent improvement ensued. When all hope seemed lost, a kind physician suggested that as a last resort, perhaps only as a matter of comfort, we give Christian Science a trial. This was done. The healing was slow, but I am grateful to say that a complete cure was effected. The physical and mental change was so radical and apparent that friends were obliged to admit a marvel had been accomplished.

After I had witnessed this healing, Christian Science treatment was employed in my behalf, and the cure of various ills was effected almost instantaneously. Everything from toothache to so-called scarlet fever was overcome, but the practitioner was employed by me in much the same capacity as a physician would be, I believing I had found a superior curative agency. The little knowledge gained from hearsay regarding Christian Science seemed quite reasonable, but while I enjoyed continuous good health I was not very anxious to learn what was the power that executed such marvelous works ; yet I was never really content in that state. The truth that makes free is an understanding of God, the eternal fact of existence, the Science of Life, Truth, Love. It was the wish for this understanding, the craving for which the human mind could not satisfy, that was fulfilled when, under trying circumstances, I was forced to study our text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, in conjunction with the Bible.

I was stricken with so-called nervousness, depression, and several physical disorders. As usual, I sought the aid of a Christian Science practitioner, but in this instance received no permanent relief. I sought other practitioners, but to no avail. Finally the last one employed, with his excellent explanations, comforting advice, and treatment, aided me considerably, and in the degree that the truth in Science and Health was revealed to me, in that degree I regained my health. The healing was slow, but I am grateful for this, as the study of Christian Science then became compulsory; otherwise it would have been delayed for a more convenient season.
