The name Christian Science can only be applied to the Science which Mrs. Eddy discovered in 1866, and which she has fully explained in the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."
At the present moment the public is beginning to awake to the great seeming power of human thought; and many books, some of them written in a very attractive style, are purporting to teach us how to use this power. It is therefore a matter of paramount importance that we should learn to distinguish the correct from the incorrect teaching on this subject. Christian Science shows us that it is right thoughts only which are powerful. "Right thoughts are reality and power; wrong thoughts are unreality and powerless, pssessing the nature of dreams" (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 252).
On what is this assertion by Mrs. Eddy founded? On the declaration of the Bible that God is Spirit, the only cause and creator, and therefore the only Mind of the universe. At first this statement may appear surprising and even impossible to some, but we are convinced that it is the scientific truth, and that in time all will come to admit it to be so. It will readily be admitted that truth is one, that any truth which is known to an individual is simply part of the sum total of truth, part of the universal truth which is here for all men to know. There is no personal possession of truth.
