The quotation in a recent issue shows that at the present time Christian Science is obtaining a hearing and an admission from thoughtful men of the practical utility thereof. To think, however, that there ever has in the past been anything tawdry or vulgar in Christian Science is as unwaranted as to imagine that light and darkness, knowledge and ignorance, can dwell together; for its teaching is the exact opposite, as will be seen from a perusal of Mrs. Eddy's works. If some of the younger and inexperienced students should at times have manifested such characteristics, it is only because they have not attained to a full understanding of its teaching.
In this connection it should be remembered that one of the Master's own immediate disciples betrayed him, another denied him, and they all at a critical moment forsook him and fled, but no one at this date would think of associating the Master's Christianity with treachery, lying, or faithlessness. They all with one exception thereafter, as a result of the lessons learned, went about preaching the gospel of salvation and healing all manner of sickness and disease, and this is what Christian Scientists are doing all over the world; in fact, bringing to it salvation, which on page 593 of the text-book of Christian Science, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," is defined by Mrs. Eddy as "Life, Truth, and Love understood and demonstrated as supreme over all; sin, sickness, and death destroyed."
