According to report our critic tries to make it appear that Christian Science is a false religion. There is no religion today that more closely adheres to the teachings of the Scriptures, and especially to that which the Master taught and commanded, than does Christian Science. Every day Christian Scientists are striving to put into practice the Master's command, as recorded in the last chapter of St. Mark's gospel, "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. . . . And these signs shall follow them that believe ; In my name shall they cast out devils ; they shall speak with new tongues ; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them ; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover."

Our critic has also said that too little was made of sin and that Mrs. Eddy wanted to do away with sin—that is, to deny that there is sin. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," the Christian Science text-book, there are upward of five hundred references which denounce sin. In none of her works does Mrs. Eddy say that to the human sense there is no sin ; on the contrary, she warns every human being that so long as he sins he will be punished.

One of the tenets of the church reads (Science and Health, p. 497) : "We acknowledge God's forgiveness of sin in the destruction of sin and the spiritual understanding that casts out evil as unreal. But the belief in sin is punished so long as the belief lasts."
