Among the Churches

Current Notes

SPOKANE, WASH.—The distribution work at this place has shown a steady growth in the past year. During the months of June, July, and August the following literature was given out: 1871 Sentinels, 258 Journals, 56 Herolds, 7930 Monitors, and 42 pamphlets. The Journals have also been placed on sale at the news stands on the Northern Pacific Railway at Billings, Butte, Helena, and Missoula, Montana; also in Spokane. There are a number of free subscriptions for city and county jails, county infirmary, state penitentiary, state asylum, fire stations, rest-rooms at department stores, high school, and the Y. M. C. A.—Correspondence.

ST. PETERSBURG, FLA.—First Church of Christ, Scientist, has acquired by purchase the property and building known as the Auditorium, the price being ten thousand dollars. The church has been holding its services there since last fall. As this is a city to which tourists come in large numbers during the winter season, and as the Scientists feel that Truth cannot be cramped or limited in any way, the securing of a new church home was taken up with the result given above.—Correspondence.

MIDDLETOWN, N. Y. —The Christian Science Societies of Port Jervis and Middletown, and First Church of Christ, Scientist, of Newburgh, united in maintaining a tent for the purpose of distributing Christian Science literature at the Orange County agriculatural fair, Aug. 22-25. There were 270 Sentinels, 30 Journals, 315 Monitors, 2 Quarterlies, 136 pamphlets given away, a total of 753 pieces. This was the first time a church had ever undertaken work of this kind here, and the innovation was well received.—Correspondence.
