Anaconda (Mont.) Standard

Our critic admits that healing is accomplished through Christian Science, but he claims that this healing is accomplished by psychic suggestion, which could be practised outside of Christian Science. This at once shows his ignorance of what Christian Science teaches. Christian Science practice is not one human mind exercising power over another; it is not the sugestion of one mind to another; it is not mental or physical manipulation; it is not will-power or psychic suggestion. It is the truth of being realized.

Christian Science takes the position that God is the only power, presence, cause, the only lawgiver; that God is infinite good, divine Life, Truth, Love, Spirit, Soul, Mind. It regards Christ as the Son of God and the divine manifestation of God's infinitude. It regards man as spiritual, perfect, and immortal. It looks upon sin, sickness, and death as false conditions which exist only in human experience, and which can be overcome through the right understanding of God and man.

Mrs. Eddy never claimed to be God or the equal of God or of Christ Jesus. She claimed nothing more than that she was the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. This came to her through her investigation of an instantaneous healing which she experienced as a result of reading the Scriptures. She had been given up by the doctors to die, and turned to the sacred Scriptures for relief. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" and her other writings on Christian Science are the result of her Scriptural search for the Principle which had healed her. Thousands of men and women have been healed through the reading of this book. In Christian Science, healing the sick and reforming the sinner are one and the same thing, because healing follows spiritual exaltation.
