Christian Science has taught me how to read the Bible...

Christian Science has taught me how to read the Bible understandingly, has kept me free from drugs for over seven years, has healed me of a physical ailment from which I had suffered all my life. It has restored to me things believed to have been lost by the thought that nothing can be lost where God's light shines, and His light shines everywhere. It has helped me to overcome much resentment, self-pity, and self-love. Next to the Bible, Science and Health is the greatest book I have ever read, and were it not for this wonderful work the Bible would still be a closed book to me.

I have had many proofs of God's power to help in times of need. One evening I was taken quite ill with fever, a throat affection, and such severe pain in the head that I could not move the muscles of my mouth to speak. My mother telephoned a practitioner for treatment, and I slept well all night. In the morning, however, I was no better, so my mother again telephoned the practitioner, who said for me to rise and come to his office. He was told that it would be impossible, but he said to tell me if I was looking for trouble I could stay in bed and be as miserable as I wanted to be, but if I was looking to God for good to unfold I could rise and come to his office. When my mother brought the message to my bedside I could not speak, and I thought I could not get up. Then I looked away from myself to God for good to unfold, and almost immediately I rose, dressed, and went to the practitioner's office, feeling perfectly well. Of course there was no virtue in going to the office, but it was necessary to break the thought that I could not rise, even with God's help. Jesus made strong demands on all who came to him for healing, and every effort to prove our dominion is rewarded.

I can never fully express my thankfulness for all I have learned and am still learning by the study of the Christian Science Bible Lessons and all the works of Mrs. Eddy.
