Baltimore (Md.) News

Our critic says the doctrines of Christian Science "should be honestly treated, not misrepresented." With this we heartily agree, and we also respect the right of every man to his own opinion. It is, however, but right that the truth about Christian Science should be presented to your readers, though it would be impossible in a newspaper article to present a full statement. This may be found in the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy.

While it may seem to some who do not agree with her, that Mrs. Eddy has perverted the teaching of the Bible, there are nevertheless hundreds of thousands of men and women all over the civilized world who are daily bearing witness by healed and regenerated lives that her teaching has restored to them the vital truths of the Bible, who are today reading and understanding the Word as never before, and who are furthermore confirming this truth-teaching with "signs following." Christ Jesus said, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do." Again, "These signs shall follow them that believe ... they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." It is interesting to note that in both cases the word here translated "believe," comes from the Greek word meaning "to adhere to, trust, rely on."

"The tree is known by his fruits." Thus Christian Science, instead of perverting the Bible teaching, is rather confirming the fact that the teachings of the Bible are as true today as they ever were, and can be so demonstrated when these truths are strictly adhered to. It is plain that what is true at one time must be true eternally. One and one make two today, as they always have and always must, and wherever this is understood it can be demonstrated. The same may be said of the healing power of God, for He is "the same yesterday, and today, and forever."
