Among the Churches
Current Notes
Jersey City, N. J.—The corner-stone of the edifice of First Church of Christ, Scientist, of this city, now in course of construction on Harrison avenue, between Bergen avenue and Boulevard, was laid at 7 o'clock last Saturday morning [May 8]. The service was simple, only eleven Scientists being in attendance. These were the readers, the board of trustees, and the building committee, with the architect. This church is a branch of The Mother Church in Boston.
The Jersey Journal.
Salem, Ill.—The Christian Scientists in Salem have purchased the Dave Marsha property on West Main street for the sum of fourteen hundred dollars, and they will begin at once to remodel the dwelling thereon and make it a suitable place for holding services for a while. In the near future they expect to erect a house of worship that will be commensurate with their idea of worship and thereby add to their comfort and likewise make it an important corner of this city.
