The evangelist whose meetings are reported in a recent issue of your paper did not state what in his judgment constitutes a Christian, so it is not possible to see why he says the word should be dropped from the term Christian Science. Christ Jesus said his followers should "preach the gospel" and "heal the sick,"—not preach alone, but both preach and heal,—and in the last chapter of Mark's gospel, healing the sick is given as a sign that "shall follow them that believe."

Christian Science has healed every disease known to mankind through the Science of divine Mind as taught and demonstrated in the life and works of the Master, and it is turning men from sin of every nature by creating in them a desire to be more godlike. These are its proofs of discipleship: They show that the writings of Mrs. Eddy correctly present Bible truths, and in the language of an early defender of the faith, Christian Science says, "Show me thy faith without thy works, and I will show thee my faith by my works." The belief that Christian Science is limited to healing certain forms of physical or mental disorder only, is simply a notion of those who have not taken the trouble to investigate.

The line of reasoning that would preach the gospel to the world and confine the healing of the sick to the one spot where the Master performed some of his works, is extraordinary, to say the least. It certainly would have been too bad if the thousands upon thousands who have felt the healing ministry of Christian Science had been compelled either to continue in their suffering or journey to the pool of Bethesda, as our brother suggests, to learn of God as omnipresent, omnipotent, divine Truth, Life, and Love, and man in His image and likeness.
