Words fail me when I try to express my gratitude for what...
Words fail me when I try to express my gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me. Some years ago I was a wreck physically, and unable to get around without great difficulty. My husband, who was then living and a physician, after a thorough examination advised me to have an operation, as that was believed to be the only way to relieve me or save my life. The physicians who examined me said I would have to make my will; in other words get ready to die, as it seemed to me. I strongly objected to this, and so asked a friend what she would do. She inquired why I did not try Christian Science. Those words were as a ray of light in the darkest hours of my life. I at once went to a Christian Science practitioner who was very patient and faithful in her work.
During the treatments I was delivered of an immense rectal tumor, and was pronounced healed in three weeks. For this I was indeed thankful. I scarcely recognized myself, the change was so great. My husband said to me soon after my recovery, "Your healing was surely a miracle, for no one knew your serious condition as I did." I have been well and strong ever since, thanks to the Giver of all good. During the period of treatment I could see so plainly how I might be saved, and I commenced to work out my salvation, although it was "with fear and trembling."
As our dear Leader says, "Better the suffering which awakens mortal mind from its fleshly dream, than the false pleasures which tend to perpetuate this dream" (Science and Health, p. 196). The spiritual uplift has been great, and it seems more glorious every day. Christian Science has been such a help to me in business, and I have many opportunities to prove its efficacy. If all who are studying will be faithful and obedient, they will be blessed.
