The report of a sermon by a local minister in a recent issue...
Rochester (Ind.) Sentinel
The report of a sermon by a local minister in a recent issue couples a statement regarding a lack of understanding of God and the Bible today with a reference to Christian Science. The inference is erroneous. Christian Scientists read the Bible daily. Christian Science has made more Bible students and is promoting a greater search of the Scriptures than any movement of modern times; and this fact is well recognized by thinkers and observers of the various religious denominations. Christian Science is the Science of divine Mind, as taught and demonstrated in the life and works of Christ Jesus, and its study, therefore, would be impossible without the Bible.
The first tenet of all Christian Science churches reads, "As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life" (Science and Health, p. 497). This constant search of the Word of God has reformed, and is reforming, thousands of all manner of sin, and it is one of the greatest influences for good, for purity, that is operating in our affairs today. It has, too, through the larger understanding of God and His laws that Christian Science brings, healed a multitude of sickness and sorrow, including every disease known to mankind.
