"Sunlight of Truth"
The question is often asked by those inquiring into Christian Science, How can God heal if He knows nothing of error? Last summer a simple illustration clearly unfolded to my consciousness the answer to this inquiry.
The children in the home had darkened the cellar windows in order to have lantern-slide pictures, and soon after this we went away for a few weeks, forgetting all about this fact. Upon returning home, however, we found the cellar damp and dark, but after removing the coverings from the windows and letting in the light, the darkness disappeared, and soon also the dampness. The sun did not need to know of the discordant conditions in order to remove them, but as soon as there was an opening for its rays to penetrate, conditions changed. This led me to see that divine Love does not need to know the falsities and discords in human consciousness in order to heal them, but as thought becomes receptive to the truth about God and man and is thus flooded with the true sense of being, fears and doubts disappear like mist before the morning light.
Mrs. Eddy makes this plain where she writes in Science and Health (p. 162), "Christian Science brings to the body the sunlight of Truth, which invigorates and purifies." As the glorious light of Christian Science unfolds more and more to our awakening thought, we long to go higher, thus getting clearer glimpses of this "sunlight of Truth," and finding our way "out of darkness" into God's "marvelous light." In the sixth beatitude Jesus in a clear statement describes the only way to this attainment: "Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God."
