Several years ago I was a physical and mental wreck
Several years ago I was a physical and mental wreck. Our family physician advised me to undergo an operation, for he said he had discovered fibroid growths. This disturbed me very much, as during the previous ten years I had already passed through three operations for so-called organic diseases. I seemed so discouraged that the doctor said perhaps I would like to consult a specialist; and this I did. His diagnosis was the same, and he advised me to return to my physician and take treatment, as I was nervous and not strong enough to undergo an operation then. On telling all this to a friend, she invited me to go with her to see a specialist who was at a hospital certain days and would see me free of charge. I went there, but was told the same thing and advised to make arrangements right away and have the operation as soon as possible.
I went home very much discouraged, and commenced to make preparations to go to a hospital, when one day I was taken ill on one of the busy streets in New York city. I was so bewildered I did not know my way home, and while trying to collect my thoughts, I noticed I was near a building where I had called with a friend who went to see a Christian Science practitioner. All I knew of Christian Science was that it seemed to be a healing religion, and for this reason it could do me no harm if it did me no good. Armed with this thought I went across the street to the practitioner's office, and I am glad to say I was healed in four treatments.
When I wrote to my brother, who at that time lived in Chicago, that I was healed through Christian Science treatment, he came East as soon as possible to offer his assistance if necessary, as he thought I had lost my mind. He was, however, agreeably surprised in the great change for the better, and gave my testimony in church even before I gave it myself. He is not a Christian Scientist as yet, but is always glad to tell what Christian Science has done for me. My healing too place during Easter week in April, 1909. The study of Christian Science has not only kept me almost immune from physical ailments, but it has purified my consciousness and given me spiritual strength to reject anything that is unlike God, good. I gladly join the multitudes who have had like experience, in saying I am thankful to God, and grateful to our faithful Leader, Mrs. Eddy, and to all those who have been willing to help me.
