There may have been a time when some people accepted...

Brooklyn (N. Y.) Eagle

There may have been a time when some people accepted without question the sweeping statement that Christian Science does not heal; there may have been a time also when some people believed that Christian Science could not destroy sin; there may have been a time, even, when some people believed that Christian Scientists had so little faith in God as to believe omnipotence to be helpless on some occasions,—but that time has long since passed. The power of Christian Science to take away the ills of the world, as well as its sins, is today being so widely demonstrated that the person who denies it is pretty sure to be classed among those who have gotten out of touch with the facts.

Does the critic believe that in Jesus' time there was one kind of leprosy which could be healed and another kind which could not be healed? Does he believe that there was one kind of sin which could be destroyed and another kind which could not be destroyed? Does he believe that there was one kind of water which could be walked on and another kind which could not be walked on? Possibly he does, but there is no warrant in Jesus' teaching for any such belief, for he said: "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also."

We of today have the same God that Jesus had. God is changeless ; He is "the same yesterday, and today, and forever." Mrs. Eddy, reasoning along this line, arrived at the point where she could see that while what is known as the Christian religion—with its belief in both good and evil, its differing creeds and materialistic ceremonies—had changed with every generation, the Christianity of Christ Jesus had never changed. She learned that God is still one, and that one, good. Mrs. Eddy named this great discovery Christian Science. She then wrote "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," the explanation and elucidation of her discovery, and through this book there was firmly reestablished on earth the lost art of Christian healing.
