Ten years ago I was led to investigate Christian Science...
Ten years ago I was led to investigate Christian Science for the cure of a number of diseases. I was suffering from catarrh of the head, throat, and stomach, also from heart trouble. I lived on the plainest of food, and at times took as many as three kinds of medicine at once, under the direction of the best doctors I could find. I was likewise suffering from the burning of my throat at regular intervals to allay the inflammation and pain. I sold out a good business and went to hot springs and a dry climate in search of health. When I continued to lose weight under this bondage of fear, a friend who had been cured of Bright's disease by Christian Science advised me to try it. I had worked with this friend, and so I knew his deplorable condition, as he had told me the doctors had done their best but gave no hope of any permanent relief. I advised him to try Christian Science, and he did so. Three weeks later he came to my shop a well man. I rejoiced with him and then thought no more of it, as I knew nothing of Christian Science except what I had learned from the reading of a Journal which was given to me and which I had passed on to my friend.
Little did I think that I should go through so much suffering without thinking of Christian Science. When I did think of it, I wrote to my friend to find out if he was well and still believed in it. On his advice I at once began to study this teaching, and as i perceived a little of the truth I so hungered for it that I could scarcely stop reading and meditating on what I read. I lost the fear of my complaints, and by degrees they fell away.
In realizing to a degree the truth of Mrs. Eddy's discovery our hearts go out in gratitude to her who paid the price and pointed the way to eternal Life.
