The Bible records that Jesus healed ten lepers, but only...

The Bible records that Jesus healed ten lepers, but only one of them returned to give thanks and praise for his healing. I do not wish to be classed with the nine, hence would express my gratitude to God for Christian Science and for the complete healing which came to me after many years of suffering.

For five or six years before this Science was brought to my attention I was a hopeless sufferer, having three chronic diseases,—a serious bowel disorder, female trouble, and a kidney disease said to be inherited. The kidney disorder had caused me much distress all my life, bringing on dropsy, rheumatism, inflammation of the bladder, and so on, also severe headaches and stomach disorder; in fact I never knew a well day. Like the woman spoken of in the Bible, I "suffered many things of many physicians." I had spent all that I had, and was "nothing bettered, but rather grew worse." Physicians of three schools of medicine failed to help me; surgical operations and change of climate proved of no avail. Besides all this physical suffering, much sorrow had come into my life. Everything that held out a promise of happiness turned into bitterness and disappointment.

While visiting a friend in Kansas City I began to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and also took a few Christian Science treatments. Then "a new heaven and a new earth" gradually opened up to me. One by one the ailments vanished, and when I was healed, like the one leper I turned to Christ, Truth, "and with a loud voice glorified God." With a heart full of love I also gave thanks to the consecrated woman who had courage to take up the cross and follow the Master "all the rugged way" (Poems, p. 14), thus making it possible for mankind to gain an understanding of the teaching and demonstrations of the great Wayshower, for through this understanding I have been freed of my load of disease and heartache. My debt of gratitude for the blessings that have come to me can only be paid by daily striving to follow Christ Jesus.
