This testimony to the value of Christian Science is given...

This testimony to the value of Christian Science is given with a heart full of thankfulness to God, and of gratitude to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for the benefit of those who may think that Christian Science is not effective in healing organic disease. Eighteen months ago I was depending entirely upon materia medica for relief from a condition which according to medical opinion is incurable, and which today is causing physicians more trouble than any other single ailment. Like every one who is depending on material means for relief, I think I read everything I could find that had bearing on this particular disease. One day I saw that a certain German chemist had made a great discovery which could be used for the cure of this illness, and which would be of the greatest benefit to humanity. I went to the local physician and talked to him about it. He advised me to go to Chicago and consult a certain doctor there. I went, but the verdict was, that owing to the fact that I had been suffering from the disease for about fifteen years, the doctor would not advise me to use this method, as the result would probably be fatal. I also made three trips to Hot Springs, Ark., but got only temporary relief.

My discouragement at this point can be imagined; but after all, it was for the best, since "man's extremity is God's opportunity," for I was thereby led to turn to Christian Science, and was healed. Since then, through the slight understanding I have of the truth, I have been able to give up tobacco, which I had used for twenty years. I have also been able to give up wearing glasses.

While I am very grateful for the physical healing in Christian Science, I am even more thankful for the spiritual understanding of the Bible which I have gained through studying the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. I am also grateful for all the Christian Science literature. My daily prayer is to know more of divine Truth and to be a worker in the vineyard, and I hope this testimony may be the means of bringing others who are suffering from the same disease to the truth that makes free.—Gilbert P. Gallaher, Danville, Ill.
