Science

I often wonder how many of us realize, in more than a passive sense, that Christian Science is scientific; that it is not only capable of demonstration, but that the right result is inevitable when its rules are rightly applied. If we add two objects to two other objects, the result is four objects, and nothing can make it otherwise. Similarly, if we cast out of our lives all that is unlike God, good, and bring out the perfect reflection of Life, Truth, and Love, we can but draw unto ourselves all the harmonies which the word heaven implies. In his prayer for his disciples, Jesus asked that they might be one with the Father, even as He was one, and not only they, but all who should believe on Him through them; therefore, as we become one with the Father, as we make the kingdom of heaven first in our lives, all things are added unto us.

In order to become one with the Father, to reflect Him perfectly, we must know what He is; and to show us what He is we have the example which Jesus gave, also the inspired Word of the Bible, as well as our text-book which is indeed a "Key to the Scriptures." Lack of a knowledge of Truth does not free us from the penalty incurred by wrong-doing. When we realize that it is by gaining a knowledge of divine law and shaping our lives in accordance therewith that we are made free, then we shall be willing to devote time to study and to give the desire for the kingdom of heaven first place in our hearts.

On page 390 of Science and Health Mrs. Eddy says, "It is our ignorance of God, the divine Principle, which produces apparent discord, and the right understanding of Him restores harmony." Jesus said, "And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent." Each day as we study and better understand the truth, we take one step out of inharmony into harmony, mental, physical, and financial. So long as there is inharmony in our lives, whether with respect to our physical condition, our supply, or our association with others, this fact indicates that there is work yet to be done, and we must not "be overcome of evil," but must "overcome evil with good."
