A writer in The News confuses healing by divine Mind...
The Denver (Col.) News
A writer in The News confuses healing by divine Mind with the false, evil action of the human mind in attempting to emulate the divine. Healing the sick in Christian Science is accomplished by the divine power of Mind, God, Spirit. Jesus healed on this basis. He declared that his meat was to do the will of God, the Father, and he manifested that will by destroying the unlikeness of God, known to mortals as hate, malice, sin, sickness, and death. When, therefore, Mrs. Eddy speaks of the Science of Mind-healing, she means the spiritual healing which the great Bible worthies employing with and which Christian Scientists are again employing with marked success all over the civilized world.
In Jesus' time, as today, there was the antipode of genuine spiritual healing, and it was known as human mind-healing. It claimed that through the action of one human mind upon another, evil and sickness could be eradicated. Simon Magnus, Elymas, and the sons of Sceva, among others, used this method. Paul, in his denunciation of Elymas, uncovered the evil nature of this human, carnal mind-action when he said, "O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness."
So well known was this voodooism of the human mind in the days of Jesus that the Pharisees conceived the plan of charging Jesus with this false method of healing, thinking thereby to discredit him with the people. They declared he cast out devils "by Beelzebub the prince of the devils." By this they meant that he used necromancy, witchcraft, or, to employ the modern term, hypnotism. Jesus in reply pointed out the inability of evil to destroy evil, and declared that he "cast out devils [evils] by the Spirit of God," and brought to the consciousness of men the "kingdom of God."
