I send this testimony, hoping it may be of help to others, and in order to show my gratitude for the many blessings which I have received from that eternal truth which was revealed to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, and which she in turn gave to a waiting and hungering world.
A little over a year ago, while working with a derrick on the roof of a three-story building in San Francisco, I fell about thirty-four feet. My partner and I were going to take an iron girder, which weighed about four hundred and fifty pounds, into the attic. After hoisting it up under the derrick, I went out on the steep roof to receive it, but the derrick broke loose and fell, pulling me with it. The girder not only fell on my left leg, but slid over it.
At that time I had been interested in Christian Science for eight years, and at the moment of falling I declared that God was my life. My head struck violently on a pile of lumber. Then I grew faint and almost lost consciousness, but through declaring the scientific statement of being, that sensation was overcome. My mouth filled with blood continually, due, as I afterward found out, to the fact that two teeth had been knocked through my lip. The people who gathered around took me to a receiving hospital, where I had my arm sewed up, also my hand, which was seriously hurt. Then I took the car and ferry and went home to Berkeley alone. I did not feel any pain, though I limped a little.
