[Written for the Sentinel]

Seeking a Country

This day Truth calls to me to go and find
A country in the plains of heavenly peace,
And take for sustenance God's loving, kind
Remembrances and blessings,—truly, these
Were food and drink for Abraham. No lack,
No fancied human want, can turn me back.

This day Truth calls to me meekly to lay
Aside all human will and take the land
Another spurns. Far higher than my way
Is God's, and as I follow His command,
He leads me gently to the quiet plain
Of substance where all human loss is gain.

This day Truth calls to me to lay my all
Upon God's altar and to follow Him.
Like Abraham, I hear the Father's call
And know His voice. Each step throughout the dim
Way upward, Love requires naught of me
Save,—Ye shall know the truth that makes you free.
