Mrs. Eddy says, "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, today is big with blessings" (Science and Health, Pref., p. vii). This statement of Christian Science is supported for me by many proofs of Truth's healing power. When I compare the past year in Science with those before it, years of sickness, sorrow, and suffering, my heart is filled with gratitude to God and thankfulness to our Leader for the "spiritual understanding that casts out evil as unreal" (p. 497).
Through disappointment, discouragement, and despondency, I was changed from a happy, care-free girl to a semi-invalid, trying every possible material remedy for healing. Having exhausted the skill of medical men, I took other treatments, and as my condition would not permit much exertion, I had to board near the office where these were given. For a short time I gained rapidly, but a reaction set in which left my condition worse than at first. I was on the verge of deep despair; but the lady with whom I boarded had been healed in Christian Science and I had become interested in it through literature which she had given me, so I sent for a practitioner and experienced almost immediate relief.
The spiritual uplift was, however, the most wonderful of all, and it has brought many other blessings. It is my daily source of joy, and even in my sleeping hours beautiful messages of divine Truth are received. While my progress has seemingly been slow, I know all error will yield, and with Paul I can say that these light afflictions, which are but for a moment, work out for me "a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory." Through the clearer understanding of Truth attained by my own efforts and those of a loving practitioner, often, in working out my own salvation, there comes that blessed realization, "I will fear no evil: for thou art with me," and harmony is restored.
