I have received so much help and encouragement from the testimonials in the Sentinel and Journal that I send the following account of my own healing with the hope that it will help some one suffering as I was.

In 1885 I had a long sickness, which left me walking on crutches and with health undermined. After a few years, attacks of pain, at each recurrence increasing in severity, indicated a new trouble, which was finally diagnosed as abscesses in the kidney. I was sent to a hospital, that I might have the benefit of the best advice, but after seven weeks I went home, no better for the treatment received there. I suffered for two years more, at times greatly, and then seemed to be at death's door. A surgeon and a trained nurse were sent for, and an operation was performed; but it was of such a nature that for days the outcome was uncertain. I slowly recovered, but did not stand on my feet for six months and for several months more was almost helpless. In spite of this operation, the abscesses continued to form, and the wound was left open for the discharge. To medical men and their patients such a condition brings great fear, and I shared and reflected that fear. Every time an abscess formed I had all the symptoms of poisoning and was not relieved in any way. I had kind and sympathetic doctors, who expressed regret that they were powerless to help me.

I came to California, and the change benefited me for a time in some ways, but did not stop the trouble. Finally a severe attack brought me to where something had to be done, as my life "hung by a thread," to use the doctor's words. I had been aware for several months that a hard growth had been forming on the kidney, and this also disturbed and puzzled the doctor, and his verdict was that I would again have to go to the hospital and submit to another operation, this time a more serious one than before, as he would have to remove the kidney. I had been having severe chills at regular intervals, followed by such high fever that I would be stupefied for a time, and the suffering during the repetition of these chills was intense, for no medicine had the slightest effect. However, I rebelled at the thought of another operation, and asked for a week to get some of my family from the East, but was told that two days was all that could be given me, as my condition was so critical.
