In your issue of the 18th of November is a reference to the speech made recently by Lord Sandwich. In the course of the article referred to, Christian Science is mentioned, and as its main point is to show the working of "suggestion," I trust you will allow me to say a word in explanation of the fact that Christian Science and "suggestion" have not the faintest resemblance to each other, being, indeed, antithetical in every respect.

Spiritual or Christian healing was practised successfully during the first few centuries of the Christian era, and was looked upon as an integral part of the practise of Christianity. The healing accomplished by Christ Jesus and his disciples is the same as that effected by Christian Science today. It is, I am sure, unnecessary to say that the healing taught by the Founder of Christianity is in no way associated with what is recognized today as "suggestion." Indeed, Jesus the Christ pointed out, in language admitting of no misconception whatever, the difference between Christian healing and other methods. The "carnal" mind, to which the apostle Paul refers and which Mrs. Eddy has described as "mortal" mind, "is enmity against God," and cannot, therefore, accomplish the results achieved through a correct or scientific understanding of that Mind "which was also in Christ Jesus."

Christian Science stands alone today as the only system of healing the sick and reforming the sinner in absolute accordance with the teaching of Christ Jesus. These results are accomplished, not by control of one mind over another, not by mental suggestion, but by the understanding of that statement with which all Christians agree, namely, that God, or good, is infinite, omnipotent, and omnipresent. Now it is quite usual for those who say they accept the teaching of the Bible, and especially of New Testament, to admit the infinity, omnipresence, and omnipotence of God, or good, but at the same time to argue in behalf of the reality, power, and presence of evil. Such an argument is without either reason or logic, for it is obvious that there is nothing outside of infinity, no power greater or other than omnipotence. The sick were healed, the sinner was reformed, and the dead were raised nineteen hundred years ago by a correct understanding of God and man.
