I am glad to testify to the healing power of Christian Science

I am glad to testify to the healing power of Christian Science. When I was fourteen years old, I was very ill. My physician was puzzled as to the proper treatment, for it was a condition then new to materia medica. A few cases among women had been known, but never a case of a child so young. I was many months recovering, and although my general health was good thereafter, I was left with an organic disturbance from which I suffered much. Just ten years later I had the same condition to meet again. By this time the method of removing the organs affected was well established, since it was no longer an unusual thing to hear of a woman afflicted as I was. I refused to be operated upon, and again was many months in recovering, for there was added to this trouble a partial paralysis of the lower digestive organs, and my general health was not so good.

Some time later, while living in the Southwest, I had a complete nervous collapse. Then followed stomach and heart trouble, and many other serious disturbances. Feeling that the high altitude affected me, we removed to a lower one, going to a small town in Ohio. Although I was under a physician's care much of the time while living there, I was in a very wretched state when we came to Chicago some four years later. After being under the care of five physicians within the next three years, two of whom were specialists, I was told by the last specialist, that as I would not consent to an operation he could do nothing more for me; that even if I should consent, he could not say that I would ever be well again, and he admitted that I might not survive the operation.

At this point I turned to Christian Science. I was healed of the paralysis with the second treatment, but the other conditions yielded more slowly. As I see now, these conditions were met in proportion as my understanding grew. I had worn glasses most of the time for seven years, but have had no need of them since the first few months of the study of Christian Science. I was also healed of a diseased condition of the gums. Never having been much interested in religion, although I was for a short time a church-member, and coming to Christian Science purely for the healing, I was much surprised when I found I had not only regained my health, but I had found a believable, lovable religion as well. While I am grateful for this physical healing, my real gratitude to God, and my thankfulness to our Leader, is for the spiritual awakening, which is the real healing, for the uplifted and regenerated thought of which this physical healing is but one of the "sings following," or the proof of the truth of it all.—Mrs. Minnie Baker, Chicago, Ill.
