[Written for the Sentinel.]

PEACE

Night, with its silence and its solitude,
Brings all earth's strife unto the feet of Love:
There, in the stillness of the eventide,
To lift our thoughts in prayer to God above.

The mists and clouds which seemed so dense by day
That we had stumbled on with bleeding feet,
Are in Thy presence all dispersed and gone;
And peace and harmony now reign complete.

Love hath renewed our unity with Thee,
And all the clanging strife of day is done.
Father, forgive, as we ourselves forgive;
For in Thy heart of love we all are one.
