[Translated from the German.]

Some three years ago, at the time when my attention was...

Some three years ago, at the time when my attention was called to Christian Science, I was suffering from the after effects of a painful operation for gall-stone. Assurance had been given me that I would be freed thereby of distressing paroxysms, and I submitted to the operation with no little trust. The opposite effect was the result, however, for I was left with a fistula which caused exactly the same suffering, and the discharge from it necessitated my wearing a bandage constantly. My condition grew worse as time went on and seemed unbearable to me.

When Christian Science found me, I asked for treatment with a sense of new courage. I was comforted and assisted with loving patience, and helped myself as best I could, although the struggle went on for two years, and it seemed as if in the end all the work in my behalf would prove a failure. Then, when I had almost made up my mind, upon medical advice, to prepare a second time for the operating table, a small ray of divine light dawned upon my thought, treatment in Christian Science having been resumed. It then took but a short time for the old wound to close, and I was freed! The words of the psalmist best express my thought: "Bless the Lord, O my soul: . . . who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with loving-kindness and tender mercies."

Thanks to Mrs. Eddy for her work toward universal salvation, and thanks to all who have lovingly and patiently assisted me with word and deed in seeking the straight way leading to the recognition of divine Truth. It is my sincere desire so to live and love that I may be able to help others as I have been helped.
