In the spring of 1910 I became afflicted with a painful varicose abscess. Knowing that medical skill could do little or nothing toward bringing about a permanent cure, I applied by letter to a Christian Science practitioner in Berlin for treatment, which was most willingly given. The trouble, however, did not yield as readily as I had expected, or rather hoped; but I saw that it had to be eliminated by an internal process, not through medicine, but through the acquistion of greater confidence in God, through the casting out of the old Adam. As my confidence in God increased, the wound began to disappear, and with the realization that no evil, no suffering, could come from God, the pain diminished until it ceased altogether. Over a year has elapsed since my complete healing, and there has been no return of the disease during that time; neither did I have to neglect my professional duties for a single day during the period of my affliction.
Next to the Bible, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy has become a very dear book to me, and I read in it daily (I was not familiar with the English formerly). I have also witnessed the healing effect of prayer in my family, and I thank God from the depths of my heart for the proofs of divine Love and Truth. It is with a grateful heart that I think of Mrs. Eddy, the Founder of Christian Science.
