Porterville (Cal.) Messenger

I have seen a clipping from a recent issue in which it is said that in a local gathering the speaker who discussed Christian Science attributed its healing to "mental suggestion and the power of the subconscious mind over the body." Doubtless there are many who believe in such a power and who seek to relieve sickness by its use, but this is not the method employed by the Christian Scientist. What is popularly known as mental suggestion is dependent upon the human will, and does not offer help beyond the action of one human thought upon another. It opens a door into the sacred precincts of individual consciousness, whereby the hypnotist may enter unrestrained to work his will, whether that be for good or for evil. Hence its danger.

Jesus employed no such questionable methods. He explained that he sought not his own will, but the will of the Father; also that it was not personal influence which healed the sick, but the operation of divine law, which could be understood and demonstrated, for he said: "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." He made no distinction between chronic and acute, organic and inorganic, curable and incurable, in dealing with disease, but showed that the power of God is sufficient to meet every need. Christian Scientists today are thankful to testify that the same divine power which saved men then is available now for all who follow Jesus' teachings.
