"Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing:...
"Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness." I join in the psalmist's song with all my heart for the blessings which I have received through Christian Science, both spiritually and physically. I suffered with nervousness for twenty-three years, and consulted many physicians,—I think about fourteen in the course of years. Massage, magnetic treatment, electricity, baths, etc., were given a thorough trial; still my health was sinking gradually. The last physician told me that nothing could be done for me, that I must go through life as I was. This verdict did not frighten me, as I had always felt that all things are possible to God. In order to leave nothing untried, however, I went to the seashore in the summer of 1908, though without being benefited in the least; but while staying there, my attention was called to Christian Science by a relative of one who had been healed through its teaching.
After a year's treatment I had made sufficient progress in the understanding of Christian Science to be able, in the practitioner's opinion, to take care of myself. Although in the succeeding years there was much error to struggle with, and I sometimes felt like asking for help, God enabled me to overcome the discordant conditions. Thus I was able to help myself in a case of hernia and abdominal trouble. At times there was the temptation to wear the truss which I had used in former times, but I asked myself whom I should trust—God, or this material thing. God's power was relied upon, and I was enabled to attend to my household and lift heavy objects with the firm trust that, Mind produces all activity, and that God is with us. In an instance where I had an abscess on the right arm, I once more had a striking proof of Truth's healing power. I had tried to open the abscess several times, when I saw that this was not the way; that I should rather put myself entirely in God's care. A thought contained in a testimony in Der Herold der Christian Science proved to be a help. It was the case of a lady who was healed of a similar trouble, and she said that the purifying and regenerating law of Spirit had manifested itself in this instance. I included this idea in my treatment that night, and on the following morning the abscess had opened.
The wonderful feature about Christian Science is, that it is applicable under any and every circumstance of life. When I lose or misplace an object, I try to realize that in God's kingdom nothing can be misplaced or lost, that I am being led by infinite intelligence, and often I will find the object immediately. I have now sufficiently progressed in the understanding of Christian Science to be able to overcome with God's help any discordant condition. I think of Mrs. Eddy, our beloved Leader, with a sense of profound gratitude for her selfless love, through which the Christ-healing has again been given to the world.
